The dictionary explanation of „escapism“ states it is „The tendency to seek distraction and relief from unpleasant realities, especially by seeking entertainment or engaging in fantasy.“ This was the red thread behind yet another SMPH project, a collaboration between Stefan Milev, Phil Hoffmann and stylist Christian Brach.

Eskapismus was developed upon request of the Spanish magazine CLANK! The production took place in Hoffmann’s apartment in Kreuzberg, Berlin: colourful lights symbolize the model’s magical aura and are both, „out of this world“ and familiar at the same time, like a well-known melody you can’t quite grasp. Resembling a dream dance, the photographs were shot in a reflection of a mirror and are deliberately blurry in order to invite the viewer’s curiosity into the space between reality and fantasy.
